Folkestone Project

Project Brief:

  • A large Natural pond & Boat House situated within a hedged part of the garden, which cannot be seen from the main part of the garden.
  • The boat house is constructed from brickwork & timber frame to replicate an old country barn, the roof on the boat house is a recliamed slate roof with a lead & mopstick flashing to the ridges.
  • The cladding which will cover the walls of the boat house is a locally sourced Ash & will be cut into feather egde board & protected with a colourless sealer.
  • Planting around the pond will include a variety of native marginal’s & bog plants including Gunnera, Flag Iris, Primula & bull-Rush, a pathway of “waterside meadow turf” which will flow down to the waters’ edge.

The planting used in this project will take around a season to establish itself, the banks that run down to the pathway that surronds the pond have been “seeded” with the same wildflower plants that are used in the waterside meadow turf, the marginal planting will thicken during the summer months, the marginal’s were chosen very carefully, firstly they are all british native plants which will give colour from April/May right through until Oct/November & secondly to attrach new wildlife into the surronding area.

So keep watching this blog, as we will be returning in 2011 to take some updated photo’s of this beautiful garden & pond.
